Where are all the pension pay points?

The GIS Centre is leading a project which conducted fieldwork to collect information on social grant pay points for the Department of Social Development (DoSD). The fieldwork took place in August and September. Fieldwork teams consisted of two people who conducted a number of workshops in each province. During the workshops a questionnaire was completed for each pay point and the location of each pay point was captured electronically in a GIS format.

The aim of the project is to provide the DoSD with a integrated GIS dataset which they can use for decision-making on optimising the pay point infrastructure of the country. The project will also produce a GIS viewer application which can be used by managers in the DoSD. A detailed modelling exercise will also be done where the optimisation of the current pay point infrastructure will be suggested. This will assist the Department to make immediate decisions about upgrading of facilities, expansion of infrastructure, etc.

The figures below indicate some of the activities during fieldwork. Up to date almost 5 100 questionnaires have been completed.
