HSRC Capacity Building Workshop: Developing, implementing and Evaluating
Behavioural Interventions for Reducing the Risk or transmission of HIV/AIDS

Given the release of the NSP in April 2007, it has become apparent that a stronger partnership between government and civil society is needed for the implementation of the NSP in crucial areas of society.

The HSRC is one of the many partners that aim to support implementation of the NSP by providing technical support, as well as providing research advice, evidence, expert inputs to SANAC broadly and enhancing capacity building to ensure the success of the NSP.

The Social & Behavioural Interventions (SBI) Group of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) invites you to a Capacity Building Workshops for the training of scientists and implementers from both public and civil society organisations involved in behavioural HIV prevention work.

The overall aim of the workshop, funded by the Gates Foundation, is to facilitate capacity building among scientists in developing, implementing and evaluating behavioural interventions for reducing the risk or transmission of HIV/AIDS in different target groups. The training will include:

  • Theory as basis for behavioural interventions
  • Behavioural theories and models in HIV/AIDS
  • Target behaviours that need to be changed in HIV/AIDS
  • Target groups for behavioural interventions
  • Strategies to change behaviours
  • Development and implementation of a behavioural HIV intervention
  • Evaluation of an HIV intervention
