Social Aspects of HIV/AIDS and Health
Hosted by : Dr Cily Tabane
Date : 26 March 2010
Time : 12:45 - 14:00
Location : VCR

The purpose of this seminar is to promote dialogue regarding cultural practices such as polygamy in preventing the spread of HIV.
The discussion is informed by the results of a study conducted in Botswana titled: ‘The influence of cultural practices of Batswana people in relation to the transmission of HIV and AIDS in Botswana'. The aim was to establish whether cultural practices can protect people from the spread of HIV and AIDS in Botswana. The methodology employed was a combined quantitative- qualitative research approach through focus groups and structured interviews. The results indicated that cultural practices are still very significant in communities and that some of them could prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS.
