You are cordially invited to a 2009 HSRC Seminar series lecture, presented by Professor Theo Sandfort (Columbia University and HIV Centre for Clinical and Behavioural Studies, New York) and Professor Vasu Reddy (HSRC). In countries where acceptance of same-sex sexuality is low, men who engage in sex with other men (MSM) are likely to experience discrimination as well as negative feelings about their sexual orientation. This external and internal homonegativity might interfere with their attempts to practice safer sex. The aim of this study was to test whether homonegativity in MSM affects sexual risk behavior, and if so, through which pathways. Data for this study were collected via computer-assisted self-interviewing in a diverse group of 300 men who are having sex with men living in Tshwane.
