Peltzer, K., Simbayi, L., Banyini, M. & Kekana, Q. (2011) Safe snipping: medical vs traditional circumcision: changing risky sexual habits. HSRC Review. 9(3):18-19.
It is now indisputable that male circumcision performed in a medical facility protects against HIV. But there is also evidence that the protective benefits of male circumcision are undermined by 'risk compensation', or a lack of restraint when it comes to sexual behaviour. KARL PELTZER, LEICKNESS SIMBAYI, MERCY BANYINI and QUEEN KEKANA undertook two studies - among the first of their kind - to ...

Setswe, G. (2009) The 'SNIP': male circumcision and HIV prevention. HSRC Review. 7(4):8-9.
Male circumcision is on the cards following the clear link between lower rates of infection from women to circumcised men, shown in three randomised controlled trials conducted in Kenya, Uganda and South Africa. Geoffrey Setswe suggests how male circumcision could form part of comprehensive prevention plan.
