Hart, T., Aliber, M., Letty, B., Msibi, M., Baipethi, M. & Nxele, Z. (2010) Audit results on technological initiatives for rural development: evidence from eight comprehensive rural development programme pilot sites. (Commissioned by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, October). |
Project summary
A multidisciplinary team of researchers, led by the HSRC, conducted a scoping study to identify technologies available for rural development. He team also developed baseline information on technology-oriented initiatives in eight of the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) pilot sites.
Given the short duration of the project (two months), the study was unable to cover all historical technology initiatives in the CRDP pilot areas in great depth. Thus it focused primarily on technologies implemented as part of the CRDP and existing technologies that, while not implemented by the CRDP, coincided with its strategic focus and objectives.
Some information was also collected on the use of various types of indigenous knowledge (IK) or local practices.
