Ms S'bonisile Zama is the GIS specialist for the Knowledge Systems GIS Centre. She holds a BAdmin from the University of South Africa, with majors in business economics and public administration, and an honours in demography from the University of Pretoria. She has partially completed her master’s degree, specialising in geographic information systems (GIS). Before joining the HSRC, Ms Zama was employed by The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, first as a community liaison officer for the Social Development Unit (1992-1994), then as a geographer for the RDP Chief Directorate (1995-1998). She joined the HSRC in 1999 and her areas of interest include economic development, tourism and labour market dynamics. She has led a number of projects, including the demarcation of the labour centre trade areas (Labour Centre GIS Project) and co-led the project on ICT Penetration in South Africa, funded by the Universal Services Agency. She also led an internal project on Spatial Analysis & Accessibility Modelling of Local Economic Development. In addition, she has participated in and presented papers at national and international conferences, and she is a member of the project team for the Geo Information for Africa Project aimed at developing a Geo-information portal for African Countries. |
