Sibongile Mkhabela: CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, National General Secretary of the South African Student Movement in 1976 and author of the memoir Open Earth and Black Roses.
John Mashayamombe & Sandla Nomvete: Young lecturers in the Sociology department at the University of Pretoria who have been conducting research with students who participated in the Fees must Fall movement
Anye Nyamnjoh: UCT lecturer and MA student in Justice and Transformation who recently presented a paper at Centre for the Book in Cape Town entitled: The Phenomenology of Rhodes Must Fall: RMF and the Experience of Alienation

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Soweto uprisings, this seminar is an intergenerational dialogue between South African scholars and activists on the role of youth in instigating and sustaining social change. Issues to be debated include the following:
- What can students/youth achieve through protest?
- What has helped and/or hindered these movement?
- What are the differences and similarities between the 1976 protests and the current unrest?
- Are/were there internal divisions in each group?
- What sustains/dissolves these movements?
- How can youth and older people work together most effectively in times
