Homelessness or street-living is a global phenomenon. While a large body of work exists on the experiences of persons living on the streets in developed countries like Canada and the UK, we know relatively little about the experiences of persons living on the street of homelessness in developing countries. Experiences and understandings of homelessness, and the associated challenges thereof, differ by region and environment. It is therefore essential to obtain a contextual understanding of homelessness in order to develop relevant programmes and interventions and policies to assist persons living in the street and those susceptible to homelessness.
The aim of this seminar is to present current research on homeless in Durban, recently completed research on homelessness in Tshwane and the adopted policy for people living on the street in Cape Town in order to start much needed conversations on understanding homelessness in South Africa, how to better support homeless individuals through practice and research; and how to translate research into evidence-based policy.
The seminar may be attended in Pretoria, Cape Town or Durban
