Prof Nuala McGrath will introduce the CHERISH programme, a collaboration between the University of Southampton (UK), HSRC and the University of Cape Town that aims to develop couples-focused behaviour change strategies for health improvement in Sub-Saharan Africa. Nuala will describe the design, conduct and analysis of a couples-focused intervention (Uthando Lwethu) to increase participation in couples HIV testing and counselling previously conducted at the HSRC’s Sweetwaters site in KwaZulu-Natal, and our current work with the Sweetwaters team to further evaluate this intervention.
Dr Kate Morton will then provide an overview of how we have used the person-based approach to understand how best to optimise the Uthando Lwethu intervention, and will share some early findings from qualitative interviews with couples.
Dr Frank Feng will conclude by illustrating how multilevel modelling can be used to analyse individual, community and national determinants of health behaviours.
