Key reflections from AfrEA Conference 2017, including a focus on Evaluative Thinking

The recent AfrEA conference << http://conferences.afrea.org/strands/ >> 2017 held in Uganda from 27 – 31 March 2017, had more than 600 participants interacting around the main conference theme, in 20 strand programmes. |

The strands were: 1.The role of Governments in Evaluating the SDG’s, 2. Partnerships for evaluating SDGs (North/South, South/South), 3. Evaluating Resilience and Poverty Alleviation, 4. Gender Equality and Equity Focused, 10. Parliamentarians for Evaluation, 11. Leveraging capacity building knowledge for development results, 12.

Professionalization for Evaluation, 13. Impact Evaluation, 14. Evaluation in fragile and conflict states, 15. Made in Africa Evaluation, 16. Evaluating Financial Inclusion, 17. Promoting VOPES and the EvalAgenda, 18. Innovations in Evaluation, 19. Technology in African-led Evaluation, 20. New Forces in Development – The Private Sector and Innovative Finance.

In this EvalCafe, Ms. Williams will facilitate short inputs from various of the SAMEAn’s that participated in the conference. Speakers will share some highlights from the conference, particularly on Evaluative Thinking.

Presenter profile:
Ms. Williams is an Evaluation Consultant with Benita Williams Evaluation Consultants, based in Pretoria. She has conducted various evaluations of Education, Youth Development, Income Generation and Health initiatives in Southern Africa for corporate donors, government departments and community based NGOs. In August 2009, she completed a three-year term as treasurer for the South African Monitoring and Evaluation Association (SAMEA) and in July 2010 completed a term as Executive Board member and secretary for the African Evaluation Association (AfrEA). She publishes in the field of evaluation, most recently as one of the authors reflecting on Democratic Evaluation and Democracy, in a book edited by Dr. Donna Podems << http://www.infoagepub.com/products/Democratic-Evaluation-and-Democracy >>
