The HSRC has the honour to cordially invite you to this high profile lecture by one of the world’s leading scholar on the developmental state and state capacity, Prof Linda Weiss of the Department of Government and International Relations, University of Sydney, Australia.

Prof Weiss specialises in comparative and international politics of economic development, with a European and East Asian focus on the state capacity and public-private sector relations. She has published extensively on topics such as state power, globalisation, developmental states, and trade politics. She is the author of the renowned book The Myth of the Poweless State. Her other books include States and Economic Development: A Comparative Historical Analysis (co-author); States in the Global Economy: Bringing Domestic Institutions Back In (editor). A number of her publications have been translated in seven languages.

Discussant: Joel Netshitenzhe, intellectual and former head of the Policy Coordination and Advisory Services in the Presidency.
