Hendrik Verwoerd, the architect of apartheid, in 1967 was one of the first high-profile South Africans to have compared racial supremacy in apartheid South Africa to that in Israel.
However, it was really Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu who, in 1987 and then again in 2002, started making a serious case as to why Israel is guilty of practising racism against the indigenous Palestinians.
