Regulatory barricade is suffocating our society

Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC)

Tear down this wall, Mr President! You and your ministers promised regulatory relief.

Instead we got regulatory diarrhoea. Not just obvious excesses, such as the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, the National Credit Act, the Labour Relations Act and the Consumer Protection Act, all of which impose costs far exceedings their benefits, but “petty” regulations requiring millions of people to waste staggering amounts of time during working hours to do such things as replace identity documents and firearm and driving licences.
