Last week the University of KwaZulu-Natal announced that it would be making Zulu compulsory for all first year students from next year.

Blogs and social media were abuzz.

Surely this is unconstitutional, some cried? Or, here was “proof” that the black majority government was forcing “its” languages down the throats of white people.
