Fixing the distortions of the education system was always going to be one of the biggest challenges of post-apartheid SA.

And while much effort has gone into repairing a woefully unequal system, SA has not reaped a decent return on its investment and industry players are now warning that time is running out for SA to stage an adequate turnaround.

For almost two decades, government has devoted the largest share of its budget to the public education system, but with disappointing results.
