HSRC annual report and finances presented to portfolio committee

Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC)
Press Release

The HSRC has once again received an unqualified audit from the Auditor-General’s office with respect to the 2010/11 financial year.

The report of the Auditor-General for 2010/11 is contained in the HSRC Annual Report, which was presented to the Portfolio Committee on Science and Technology in Parliament today (Tuesday, 18 October 2011) and the public release is scheduled for 20 October 2011.

At the time of the Auditor-General’s report – 29 July 2011 – the disciplinary process regarding the former CFO of the HSRC, Ms Audrey Ohlson, had not been concluded.

This process has now been concluded and the HSRC has implemented the chairperson’s recommendation on an appropriate sanction. The misconduct was serious and involved not following supply chain management (SCM) procedures which were in breach of the HSRC’s SCM procedures.

The decision by the chairperson is subject to appeal. For these reasons it would not be proper to further disclose details about the disciplinary hearing.

The annual report and the Auditor-General’s audit speak to the adequacy of the research performance and financial management of the HSRC.
