TB Prevalence Survey findings

27 January 2021
09:00 - 20:29

Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize will on Wednesday, (27 January 2021, 9am) virtually release the findings of first ever South African national TB prevalence survey findings.

The survey was conducted between 2017 and 2019 by the South African Medical Research Council, Human Science Research Council and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases on behalf of the National Department of Health to determine the true burden of TB disease in South Africa through bacteriological assessment among the population aged 15 years and older.

TB remains one of the leading causes of death globally and this is estimated to increase by up to 26% with decreased TB detection as a result of the COVID-19.
