Dr Glenda Kruss appointed as DED: CeSTII
The HSRC is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Glenda Kruss as the Deputy Executive Director for the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII) in the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC).
Dr Kruss is currently a Director in the Education and Skills Development programme at the HSRC. Over the past ten years, she has worked in the field of innovation studies, to understand the role of universities and public research institutes in economic and social development, and the determinants of skills and knowledge flows within sectoral, national and global systems of innovation. She has collaborated on comparative projects in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe, and led large-scale projects for national government. In particular, she has worked extensively in Southern African contexts, building alliances and networks between researchers, policy makers and practitioners. She has a strong academic publication record, including 11 books and monographs, and 31 refereed journal articles.
Dr Kruss brings with her a wealth of skills and experience to lead the CeSTII team to advance its core business of surveys and grow its strategic contribution to STI Policy. Her current research interest is to investigate how Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policy across government can facilitate new forms of intervention oriented to address poverty and inequality, such as grassroots innovation, innovation for livelihoods, rural innovation and innovation for micro-enterprises. By growing such research to encompass more contextually situated frameworks and indicators, CeSTII can make a stronger contribution to the HSRC’s new strategic focus on poverty and inequality.
Dr Kruss joins the CeSTII team on 1 November 2016. We congratulate her on the appointment and look forward to continue working with her and the team.
