Vice President of Madagascar's Parliament visits AISA in the HSRC
As part of its mandate to continue seeking solutions to Africa’s developmental challenges, the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA) in the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) held a briefing session with the Vice President of Madagascar’s Parliament, Dr Freddie MAHAZOASY.
Dr MAHAZOASY who is in South Africa for the 2nd Food Safety and Security conference took time out of his busy conference programme to engage with AISA Executive Director, Prof Cheryl Hendricks and her research team.
Some of the issues discussed during the briefing meeting included the forthcoming 7 November elections; Madagascar’s economic recovery from the 2009 uprising; the rebuilding of State institutions; as well as peace and security issues.
The discussion was aided by AISA researchers’ knowledge of Madagascar which emanates from their 2015 fieldwork in the country. The briefing would be beneficial for the future projects AISA seeks to undertake, among others, the planned seminar on the “post-elections analysis” of Madagascar.
AISA in the HSRC undertakes basic, applied and comparative research devoted to the study of Africa and African Diasporas. Additionally, the Institute collaborates with and provides research-based policy advice to African multilateral organisations on public affairs.
