INASP has contracted with the UK Department for International Development (DFID) for the provision of services for the Building Capacity for the Use of Research Evidence programme (BCURE) .
The Supplier, HSRC, comprising the Research Use and Impact Assessment (RIA) team and the Democracy Governance and Service Delivery (DGSD) team, agrees to provide the services stipulated below as a member of the consortium led by INASP for BCURE.
The question that DGSD adresses in this study is: how can DEA implement an evidence-based process for environmental policymaking in the context of a desire to return to more participatory policy development processes?
The following will be addressed;
- Assessing trends and lessons around the role and quality of participation in policymaking in South Africa, especially the environmental sector, since the end of the Apartheid era
- Exploring how policymaking might be both participatory and evidence informed given the various constraints that DEA and its officials are under
