Abstract

The issue is important and timeous, since a lot has been said in regard to social capital but it is a highly contested and debated issue. While all agree on the need for social cohesion, there is little agreement on whether social capital exists if it does, whether it is crucial to development and social cohesion and what can be done to build social cohesion. The cross-cutting themes relate to the issue. The project responds to the needs of the four constituencies that are represented in NEDLAC, government, business, labor and community, or the rest of civil society.
