The Municipal Demarcation Board is confronted with challenges of municipal boundary demarcations. Municipal boundary demarcations often result in disputes especially in areas where there are traditional leaders presence. There are communities for example which prefer to stay where they are and not to be moved elsewhere. Others expressed a need to have their own municipalities. These pose a potential conflict especially in traditional areas which are characterised by socio-cultural dynamics hence demarcations in those areas are a potential source of strife. Against this backdrop, the seminar aims to understand why municipal boundary demarcations in traditional areas are a potential source of strife and discontentment. There is a need to engage in how to resolve spatial transformation challenges when demarcating municipal boundaries in traditional areas. We need to propose the best way in which municipal boundary demarcations challenges could be resolved to enhance social cohesion and integrated development.
