Ms. Farzanah Frieslaar is the Centre Administrative Officer at the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII), within the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) of South Africa, working as part of the team that is dedicated to producing policy relevant research and statistical analysis in the domain of science, technology and innovation (STI). She holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons.) Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree having majored in Psychology and Gender Studies both from the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Before joining the HSRC as a Research Assistant in 2014, Ms. Frieslaar held a number of contractual appointments at UCT, including that of a Teaching Assistant (Tutor) for the Department of Psychology where she tutored undergraduate Psychology students; as well as a Research Assistant in the Human Resources Department where she was involved in research projects on the topic of UCT Staff Transformation. Furthermore, she has been involved in several voluntary and community work projects; such as having worked for the University of Cape Town as a Research Assistant, for SHAWCO Education as a Tutor and Committee Member, and for the Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital as an Assistant for people with intellectual disabilities at an annual one-to-one day held at the Good Hope Centre.

She has gained valuable theoretical and practical research knowledge in both her academic and professional careers. Her areas of interest lies in working with children, adolescents, and adults in the education and health sectors as she has a passion for making a difference to society from both an individual and community based perspective.
