Mr Johan Viljoen is a senior researcher in the Democracy and Governance (D&G) research programme. He holds a master's degree in geography from the University of South Africa.

Mr Viljoen has more than ten years' experience in both qualitative and quantitative research, and has been involved in several research projects and large-scale surveys. His research outputs mainly pertain to tourism, population studies and the environment. He has been the author and co-author of a number of peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and client reports.
