Dr Sikhulumile Sinyolo is a Research Specialist in the Economic Performance and Development (EPD) research programme. He holds an MSc (cum laude) and PhD in Agricultural Economics, both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Sinyolo is passionate about rural development, and before joining HSRC, he worked on a number of rural development projects at the Lima Rural Development Foundation in Pietermaritzburg. In line with his passion, his research interests include the economics of grassroots innovations and rural entrepreneurship, food security, rural and inclusive development, irrigation and smallholder commercialisation. Dr Sinyolo has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles on these subject areas that have been published in reputable local and international journals while others have been presented in conferences. He has recently reviewed articles for journals such as Agricultural Economics, Development in Practice, Ecology of Food and Nutrition, and Food Security.
