Prof Thelmah Xavela Maluleke is a Research Director: Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, Nutrition & Behavioural Sciences within the Population Health, Health Systems and Innovations (PHHSI) Programme at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). She is an adjunct professor at the University of Venda and Fort Hare.

Before joining the HSRC in July 2011, she was associate professor: research (research champion) at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Walter Sisulu University. She has also worked in other academic institutions in the area of public health and research.

She is a trained Creative Consciousness life coach. Her research interest is in the area of sexual health, adolescent health, health promotion, gender and indigenous knowledge systems. She serves as an expert reviewer for a number of national and international peer reviewed journals.

Her publication record spans from the authoring and co-authoring of several peer-reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters and conference presentations. She has received several awards for academic development and funding for research projects.
